Fasting plasma glucose, Glucose Tolerance Test and HbA1c
The above tests check if there are sugar changes due to the hormones produced during pregnancy that can lead some women to become temporarily diabetic (gestational diabetes).
The Glucose Tolerance test is performed by taking a blood sugar sample after fasting from the night before followed by an intake of a glucose solution of 75g and checking the blood sugar levels of the mother in one and two hours. The values are compared by the normal values to provide the diagnosis of gestational diabetes or not.
