Hypersecretion of sputum may be a problem, but only for the first half of the pregnancy. Symptoms include double amount of saliva secretion, bitter taste, harsh tongue and puffy cheeks due to swollen salivary glands. Hypersecretion of sputum occurs more often in women who suffer from morning sickness and can make their nausea temporarily unbearable.
How can you help yourself:
- Reduce starchy foods and dairy products and follow a healthy diet.
- Eat fruits, they help alleviating the symptoms.
- Mints, chewing gum, small frequent meals and cookies may limit salivation.
- Try to brush or rinse your teeth with mint products to freshen your breath.
- Drink a few drops of lemon juice.
