Between 18 and 24 weeks, you may feel a sharp pain or mild discomfort in one or both sides of the abdomen or in the area around the base of the thighs. Pain becomes sharper when you stand or move quickly and slacks when lying down. This is the so-called round ligament pain. Round ligaments are fibrous bands of tissue that connect the fundus of the uterus with the labia. As the uterus expands in the second quarter, the dilatation of these joints can cause discomfort. While it can be quite unpleasant, it is absolutely normal. The pain usually disappears or alleviates after the 24th week.
How you can help yourself:
- Take breaks when walking or standing. Also lay up your legs when you sit.
- In every regular visit to your doctor report to him any pain that you may feel in the abdomen.
