Hysterectomy is the removal of the uterus (womb), and, in most cases, the cervix (neck of the uterus). ln this country, it’s one of the most common operations.
The reasons that a woman may need an hysterectomy are as follows:
- Heavy uterine bleeding and/or period problems that can not be controlled by other methods
- Fibroids which cause serioius symptoms
- Endometriosis
- Uterine prolapse
- Severe Pre-Menstrual Syndrome
- Cancer of the uterus, cervix or ovaries or conditions that can lead to cancer.
