Waterbirth

Waterbirth is a process of giving birth to your baby in a pool of warm water. It is considered that since the baby has been living in a pool of amniotic fluid for 9 months, birthing into a similar environment, can be gentler for the baby and less stressful for the mother.

It is now well understood that using water has other benefits including:

  • Women feel more relaxed and mobile.
  • It can remove the need for more conventional pain relief methods.
  • Reduces the incidence of perineal trauma.
  • It could even speed up the labour.

Together Dr. Michael Lazanakis and Fiona McIntosh have significant water birth experience, from working in the UK and here in Greece. They are happy supporting women opting to have a water birth and are available to offer guidance to those that are exploring this option. When a couple decide to consider having their baby in water, Fiona provides an extra class for water birth preparation. Additionally in consultation with Dr.Michael Lazanakis, he will consider the medical condition of the pregnant woman and wellbeing of the baby to ensure that a water birth option is medically a sound option for the mother and her baby.

The choice of water birth is yours, if finally you decided that it’s not for you or don’t wish to continue, the solution is simple, just come out.
