- Cook meat and poultry well until there is no trace of blood and thoroughly clean the surfaces that you worked on.
- Thoroughly clean fruits and vegetables from any sign of soil.
- Boil or fry the eggs adequately until the whites and yolk solidify so to avoid the possibility of salmonella. Avoid homemade mayonnaise or other recipes that may contain raw eggs or poorly cooked.
- Avoid eating all types of paté or soft cheeses ripened by fungi of the mold (rock-four, Camembert, Brie, Stilton) to avoid listeriosis. Hard cheeses such as Cheddar, Gruyere, kefalotiri, parmesan are allowed as well as those that are made from pasteurized milk (cottage cheese, mozzarela, and cheese type Philadelphia). Contamination by Listeria, although rarely causes problems nowadays, should be avoided especially during pregnancy as it can cause miscarriage or even fetal death.
- Do not consume liver or derivatives because it contains increased amount of vitamin A which can harm the baby.
